LIGHT PAINTING

These photo's are a great way to show off one of the many ways you can use Long-Exposure to make more unique results in your photography.

These awesome photos were produced as part of a demonstration done for my local cubs & scouts groups. Me and another photographer came in with a bunch of different lights for all the guys to play with while the shutter was open to make some fun light painting. We had two camera's which were both set up on tripods, which is essential for any photography where you need to keep the shutter open for an extended period of time. This prevents the details, which aren't supposed to be blurred, from being blurred and therefore losing quality. Also, if handheld for a while the whole photo could end up a big blur.

I am very happy with how these photos came out and, although I had done it before, using the scouts hall was a perfect location to get the best results as the best results come from when the location is pitch black and the only light source is the light source you're using in front of the camera to paint with. This would usually be just a torch however, as shown here, there are many interesting lights you can use.

Les Paul Advertisement (Product Photography)

These photos are a great demonstration of my skills in a photography studio in contrast to my other photos which only show candid-like photography.

These were a few of my favourite shots for a college project I produced which were going to be used in a Les Paul advertisement. Guitar is a passion of mine as well are Les Paul's  so this project was a great opportunity to learn some new skills about lighting in photography and also the use of a macro lens. The idea behind this was to get a good quality photo with the correct composition which could be used with some typography and a logo to create a high end poster worthy of Les Paul.

I am very pleased with how the photos came out considering I was using a different camera than I am used to and in a completely different setting. However, if I was going to do it again I would need to make sure I got the focus pin-point before taking the shot as I feel the focus is just slightly out and therefore not quite high enough standard for a company such as Epiphone or Gibson.

Portrait Photography

Portrait Photography has always been my go to type of photography for whenever I have my camera out. So much so, I seemed to have filled the newly created role of "Official Profile Picture Updater" in amongst my group of friends.

I really love the freedom of Portrait photography as not only, is there so much room for me to decide the mood of the photo using lighting, angles and focus etc, but the model themselves have so many different moods and expressions to give off which can change the feel to a photograph instantly.

Retouching & Manipulations (Ps)

Photo or simply picture manipulations was where I started long before I knew how to take a good photograph. I would put my siblings in different settings, make them look like super heroes or disintegrate them in one foul swoosh of a photoshop brush.

I would say, to this date, I probably have at least 5 years of photoshop experience whether it be simply retouching a photo, a background change or adding a faint camera filter all the way to designing an original piece, rendered from scratch using brushes, actions and stock pictures from every different site I could find. I have worked personally and professionally with this software and from that feel I have a good base for when photo manipulations have to be made such as the first one in the gallery.

For this shot, I needed an outdoor scene with the model wearing the reeboks however, they were currently being used as indoor gym shoes and would be rendered useless if they were used outside in the rain. This meant I had to take a picture outside without the model, inside with the models using matching angles and lighting the best I could in order to give myself a head start in photoshop. All I had to do then was a clean cut out from the indoor picture, match the colour and create some shadows on the ground for a more realistic look.

Vans Shoot.

Out of the multiple shoots I did for vans these are the selected few which made it into my magazine or were simply, the best out of the rest of them.

These shoots were done to create content for a magazine I was creating as my personal investigation in my graphics A-Level. The magazine was called "Mute." which was named after a skateboard trick invented by Chris Weddle, named so because he was deaf from birth and thus had severe speech difficulties. The Mute magazine was a urban skateboard/bmx style magazine aiming to give the latest news on urban lifestyle such as meet ups, fashion and festivals etc.

Vans was an important part in that as they are a massive part in skateboarding, bmx and fashion as well. They are the main sponsors for the majority of the worlds best bmx riders, skateboarders and therefore the best selling skate shoe brand in the world. They host massive events and bring new clothing or shoes out every week with the odd chance of working with other bring brands such as Thrasher or Northface.

Candid Photography

Candid photography maybe one of the most common types of photography in the amateur photographer as, like me, they are not usually doing it for a reason other than as a passion and therefore stuff such as "Shoots" do not come up and whether it is a Landscape photo or Portrait it is still usually a spur of the moment thing.

I am a keen photographer myself with my Canon 5D MkII which I use for mostly personal reason however definitely comes in handy for high quality pictures for use in my Graphics work and Creative Media work. My Candid section however, does not display any college work and rather just me, out and about capturing things to the best of my ability as they happen.
